We have selected Christian Miller as our latest Modern Guitar Harmony Guitarist of the Month.
Not only is Christian a very tasty jazz guitarist he also avidly explores lesser known music forms such as Partimento.
Having traded astronomy for jazz, Christian has played guitar with the broadest possible spectrum of British jazz musicians, ranging from traditional jazz star Adrian Cox to fusion virtuoso Mike Mondesir, and taking in the likes of Nigel Price, Heidi Vogel, Alex Garnett and Ian Shaw.
Christian has played with a variety of projects including Kit Massey’s Hot Club of Jupiter, the Balagan Cafe Band, Southside Gypsy trio, Big Fan as well as the Melange Collective.
He has performed at venues such as Ronnie Scotts and the Vortex and at international jazz venues.
Internationally, Christian has collaborated with New York musicians including swing scene favourites Gordon Webster and Brandi Disterheft, and rising star New Orleans reeds woman Aurora Nealand (Treme, Royal Roses).
Anansi Blues marks Christian’s first release under his own name.
His session credits include BBC2 Radio Session for singer/songwriter Earl and advertising campaigns for Renault and Martini.
As an educator, Christian has been teaching privately for over ten years. In 2010, he was awarded the Jazz Services/Yamaha bursary for Music Education.
Christian has created several charts detailing Mick Goodrick almanac harmony for the MGH Resources page.
Christian lives in London.
Jazz Guitar Scrapbook Youtube Channel
Christian has an excellent Youtube channel called the Jazz Guitar Scrapbook. The name is a bit of a misnomer as the channel features everything from baroque music to modern day harmony.
Christian’s musical knowledge runs very deep and on the Jazz Guitar Scrapbook channel he addresses theory and observations about every important era of music, plays he plays tunes as well, so be sure to check him out!
